Rick’s extensive experience in live news production includes working for major TV channels such as ITV, ITN, Sky News, ABC, and Bloomberg. His coverage spans terrorism, natural disasters, and man-made crises. His academic background in the humanities reflects his deep interest in human behavior, and he holds multiple degrees and postgraduate qualifications in this field. While initially considering a career in the military, Rick chose to pursue the creative industries and was later invited to Sandhurst Training College in the mid-1990s to train as an NCO in G3 Operations. Instead, he opted to apply his skills in media consultancy, working alongside charities, NGOs, defense organizations, and the British Army.
Rick’s expertise has been recognized internationally—he has won multiple awards at the International Congress for Surgery, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for pioneering surgery training videos produced in collaboration with the Upper G.I. team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. In 2014, he was invited to Westminster in recognition of his significant contributions to healthcare media, earning a place among the top ten providers from the Southwest of England.
Rick lives in Devon with his wife, Sharon, where they enjoy outdoor sports and manage their private woodland in Exmoor National Park. In his spare time, Rick is an avid motorcycle enduro and green-laning enthusiast, enjoys shooting, trains his pet Malinois, and loves tinkering with his vintage Series III Land Rover.

Since 1993, Rick has worked closely with UK Med and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), becoming a trusted expert in problem-solving and media consultancy. He is regularly headhunted for his creativity and unique ability to deliver solutions under pressure, which he applies in the creation of training videos, fundraising campaigns, and lectures.

Rick has been a key partner with UK Med for more than a decade. His work has involved designing and delivering lectures, media training programs, and realistic scenario-based simulations for NHS volunteers, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics. These training sessions prepare healthcare professionals for deployment to regions affected by natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and conflict zones across the globe. Notable training sites have included Ministry of Defence (MoD) locations such as Catterick Garrison, Warcop Training Area, Nesscliffe Training Area, and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Training Centre.

Much of this humanitarian aid preparation involves high-pressure, scenario-based training alongside members of the Royal Army Medical Corps and former special forces units from the Royal Marines and Parachute Regiment. These sessions often incorporate former Afghan soldiers to create realistic, high-stakes environments. The week-long simulated missions focus on areas such as navigation, first responder training, and the establishment of field hospitals in conflict zones, all while dealing with the constant threat of hostile forces and the added challenge of media presence. A critical component of the training is media management—ensuring that personnel understand how to control information flow and maintain operational security, especially with regard to their social media accounts.
